Capoeira festivals and cultural exchange draw participants in Portugal and Brazil

From August 3 to 8, the 4th edition of the International Capoeira Festival took place in Sines and Porto Covo, Portugal. The program featured technical classes for all levels, musical performances, Brazilian cultural expressions such as maculelê, samba and forró, as well as nautical activities, a beach‑cleaning initiative and a night‑time Grand Capoeira Circle. Public transport was provided free of charge between the two towns.

On August 31, a cultural exchange between Brazil and Japan was held in Salvador, Brazil, organized by Casa da Capoeira Pelourinho. Masters and practitioners from Brazil, Japan and a third country participated in workshops, demonstrations and dialogues aimed at strengthening Afro‑Brazilian heritage and promoting capoeira as a tool for education and social inclusion. Mestre Pitbull, president of the host organization, highlighted the event’s role in fostering cross‑cultural integration.
