Capoeira initiatives promote cultural engagement in Brazil
Capoeira programs are being utilized across Brazil to foster community engagement and cultural education. In Curitiba, 155 students from three state schools participated in a traditional graduation and belt ceremony organized by the Capoeira and Citizenship Project. This initiative, promoted by the Volvo Association for two decades and supported by federal incentive laws, uses capoeira as a pedagogical tool during after-school hours to combat school dropout rates and strengthen student self-esteem.
In Salvador, a free public capoeira workshop is being hosted by the CTE Capoeiragem Mestre Balão International School. The event aims to introduce the martial art to people of all ages, ranging from infants as young as 18 months to seniors up to 75 years old, emphasizing the practice's musical and social dimensions.
