Captain Stuart Farquharson-Roberts, WWII naval veteran, honored at funeral

Final tributes have been paid to Captain Stuart Farquharson-Roberts, a 104-year-old Royal Navy veteran and Arctic convoy legend, during a funeral at All Saints Church in Steep, near Petersfield.

Born in 1922, Farquharson-Roberts had a distinguished naval career that included hunting U-boats in the Atlantic and participating in Operation Menace. He was well known for his accounts of the perilous Arctic convoys, describing the extreme conditions and humanity of life in high latitudes. His service also included a role in the liberation of Bergen and serving as a director of foreign and Commonwealth training from 1973 to 1977. He was appointed an OBE in 1958.
