CAPUFE operates 24 free emergency braking ramps in Mexico

Caminos y Puentes Federales (CAPUFE) operates 24 emergency braking ramps across 10 Mexican states to improve safety on federal highways. These ramps are designed to assist vehicles experiencing brake failure, particularly on steep inclines, to prevent serious accidents.

Since June 2023, the use of these emergency zones has been free of charge. While entering the ramp does not incur a fee, drivers remain responsible for the costs of vehicle recovery and towing services provided by private cranes. These recovery services must adhere to established tariffs for ‘off-road’ maneuvers.

The ramps are located in Campeche, Chiapas, Coahuila, Durango, Estado de México, Guerrero, Morelos, Puebla, Querétaro, and Veracruz. When a ramp is utilized, a safety protocol is activated involving CAPUFE, the National Guard, the Red Cross, Civil Protection, and firefighters to provide medical assessment and emergency assistance to occupants.
