Caquetá Governor and Florencia Mayor engage in public boxing match
The Governor of Caquetá, Luis Francisco Ruiz Aguilar, and the Mayor of Florencia, Marlon Monsalve Ascanio, participated in an exhibition boxing match during the ‘Guerra en la Selva’ sporting event. The match, held before a large crowd, lasted approximately one minute and 15 seconds, ending in the second round when Ruiz Aguilar took the initiative and Monsalve was unable to continue.
Officials stated the bout was intended to promote sports, support the reactivation of the local Boxing League, and honor the legacy of regional boxing instructor Granja Banguera. Both leaders clarified that the match was not the result of administrative disputes, with Ruiz Aguilar describing it as a demonstration of unity and fraternity.
Despite the official intent, the event drew criticism on social media from users who argued that the officials should focus on the department's pressing needs and priorities rather than such activities. Following the match, Ruiz Aguilar issued a new sporting challenge to the Mayor of San Vicente del Caguán, Luis Trujillo.
