Car and small truck collide on Germany's A38 near Heiligenstadt, driver injured

On Thursday, the Heiligenstadt fire brigade and rescue services were dispatched to the A38 highway in the Göttingen direction, about one kilometre behind the Heilbad Heiligenstadt interchange. A passenger car and a small transporter had crashed; the car driver was injured and, after on‑site first aid provided by an intensive‑care transport vehicle, was taken to hospital.

Debris covered both carriageways and the car overturned onto its roof, leaking oil. The small transporter had rolled onto the central barrier. The accident forced a full closure of the A38, with crews removing wreckage and containing the oil spill. After the clearance work was completed around 16:00, control of the scene was handed to police and the highway authority. The cause of the collision remains under investigation by the autobahn police.
