Casanare car bomb attack injures four workers at toll plaza

A car bomb explosion at the San Pedro toll plaza in the Casanare department of Colombia injured four women on Friday. The victims are employees of the road concessionaire, Covioriente, and were transported to a hospital in Villanueva for treatment. Their conditions are reported as favorable.

The blast, which occurred on the road connecting Villanueva and Monterrey, caused significant damage to the toll infrastructure, destroying parts of the collection booths. Preliminary investigations suggest a man abandoned the vehicle near the plaza and fled on a motorcycle with an accomplice.

Casanare Governor César Ortiz Zorro stated that intelligence reports attribute the attack to the ELN, specifically the José David Suárez structure, potentially as retaliation for recent military operations. The vehicle reportedly contained over 120 kilograms of high-impact explosives and was equipped with shrapnel elements such as chains and bolts. Authorities have announced a reward of up to 50 million pesos for information leading to the capture of those responsible.
