Car buying advice: Key steps for vehicle purchase and registration
When purchasing a vehicle, buyers should consider various factors to avoid costly mistakes. According to an Autogidas.lt survey, 74% of respondents have already purchased, plan to purchase, or are considering buying a car this year. Key considerations include daily driving needs, fuel type, budget, and maintenance costs.
Legal formalities are critical for ownership transfer. Tautvydas Paliulis from Regitra notes that while a sales contract confirms an agreement, both the buyer and seller must declare the change of ownership in the Regitra system to finalize the process and issue a new personal code to the buyer.
Choosing between a private seller and a company involves different trade-offs. Private sellers often offer lower prices and direct negotiation, but carry higher risks if vehicle history is unclear or defects are hidden. Conversely, companies may provide documented histories and warranties, offering more transparency for inexperienced buyers. Experts emphasize that regardless of the seller's status, transparency and verifying the vehicle's history remain the most important factors in minimizing risk.
