Japanese drivers have popularized a quick trick to lower a car’s interior temperature without using the air‑conditioning system. By fully lowering the passenger‑side front window and then repeatedly opening and partially closing the driver’s door five‑to‑six times, a pressure differential pumps hot air out and draws in cooler outside air, cutting cabin temperature by about 8‑10 °C in roughly thirty seconds.

Automotive experts warn that improper servicing of a car’s sealed air‑conditioning system can quickly destroy the compressor, a costly component. Using the wrong refrigerant, incorrect charge levels, moisture contamination or neglecting the oil that lubricates the compressor may lead to overheating, internal damage or “water‑hammer” failures. Regular checks of refrigerant volume, condenser cleanliness, and occasional operation of the AC (at least once every two weeks) help maintain proper lubrication and seal integrity, preventing expensive repairs.

Both the window‑cycling method and proper AC maintenance reduce the load on the vehicle’s electrical and mechanical systems, extending the lifespan of components such as the alternator, battery and door hinges.
