Crete car crash flips into trees, two people injured

Early Sunday morning (12 July) a vehicle travelling from Malta toward Heraklion on the old national road of the Heraklion peninsula in Crete lost control at a sharp turn. Moving at an estimated 200 km/h, it struck protective barriers, was thrown into the air, travelled roughly 100 m, collided with a tree and then landed on several parked cars before coming to rest on the roadway. No fatalities were recorded; a female passenger was taken to hospital with minor injuries and a man in a nearby parked vehicle sustained light injuries. Police later determined the driver, a tourist, was under the influence of alcohol and arrested him. Security‑camera footage captured the car’s airborne trajectory and the panic of by‑standers who rushed to assist. Authorities are investigating the precise cause of the loss of control.
