Car fire in Skomielna Biała tunnel on S7 expressway

A passenger car caught fire on September 19 inside the Skomielna Biała tunnel on the S7 expressway (Zakopianka route) near Luboń Mały. No injuries were reported during the incident.

The driver and witnesses managed to control the initial flames using both the vehicle's onboard extinguisher and the specialized fire suppression equipment installed within the tunnel before firefighters arrived. Experts noted the driver's effective response, specifically highlighting that they did not fully open the hood, which prevents oxygen from fueling the fire.

The tunnel is equipped with an advanced safety system managed by a dedicated Control Center. This infrastructure includes approximately 240 smoke detectors, four linear heat sensors, 100 fans for smoke management, and an extensive monitoring network consisting of rotating, stationary, and video detection cameras.
