Car meetup shootings in Virginia and Maryland injure participants

A car meetup in Prince William County, Virginia, that attracted about 100 people early Saturday resulted in a 16‑year‑old boy being shot and suffering life‑threatening injuries. Police are searching for the shooter and have asked the public for information. Lt. Jonathan Perok of the Prince William County Police Department said the incident followed an altercation and emphasized the need for organized events with security measures.

In Prince George's County, Maryland, a female victim was shot at a car meetup on Beaver Road just before 4 a.m. Sunday and was taken to the University of Maryland Capital Region Hospital. The Prince George's Police Department warned that underground car meetups have led to injuries and deaths, urging parents to discuss the risks with their children and reminding that participants can face arrests, heavy fines, and vehicle impoundment.
