Car plows into student‑support protest in Bačka Palanka, Serbia, injuring two

A vehicle driven by a man identified as the driver of a Hyundai brand car rammed into a column of citizens marching in Bačka Palanka, Serbia, during a peaceful demonstration in support of student protests. Two participants sustained light injuries and received medical attention from emergency services.

According to Dragan Prpa, a member of the Citizens Assembly of Bačka Palanka, the driver ignored signals from a police vehicle and a volunteer in a high‑visibility vest, continued forward, and then reversed, striking additional protestors. Witnesses said the crowd surrounded the car after it stopped, and traffic police removed the driver from the scene and took statements from witnesses and the injured.

The protest, organized regularly by the local citizens' assembly, aims to back student movements across Serbia that began after a tragic train‑station incident in Novi Sad in November 2024. Police are investigating the incident, and the driver is alleged to have been involved in a similar protest‑related collision the previous week.
