Car rental error results in impossible mileage charge for customer

A customer, Yuehao Huang, was incorrectly billed for nearly 30,000 kilometers after a one-week car rental in Canada. The bill, totaling 5,900 Canadian dollars in addition to the prepaid rental fee, implied an average driving speed of 172 km/h for 168 hours straight without stops for fuel or sleep.

After initially disputing the charge and facing rejection from both the rental company and his bank, Huang sought media assistance. Following press intervention, the company admitted that a data entry error caused the incorrect charge, issued an apology, and promised a refund.
