Car Sunshades Help Prevent Dangerous Interior Temperatures in Italy

The interior of a parked car can quickly become extremely hot. Tests by the Swiss Touring Club recorded temperatures above 77 °C on the dashboard, enough to cause burns, while the cabin temperature rose to around 40 °C within minutes. The Italian Ministry of Health warns that such heat can lead to dehydration, hyperthermia, dizziness and even loss of consciousness, especially for children left unattended in vehicles.

Using a sunshade reduces the temperature rise dramatically. Internal fold‑away shades or external magnetic covers block sunlight before it reaches the glass, and reflective materials with a UPF rating of 50+ can cut UV exposure by up to 99 %. Proper fit, correct size and the choice of material (PEVA, aluminum, composite fabrics) are essential for effective protection. Opening windows and parking in shade further lower the risk when the vehicle is stationary.
