CAR-T therapy market projected to reach $6.08 billion by 2030

The global CAR-T cell therapy market is projected to grow from $2.98 billion in 2025 to $6.08 billion by 2030, representing a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 15.2%. This expansion is driven by rising cancer incidence rates and advancements in T-cell engineering. Key industry players include Gilead Sciences, Novartis AG, and Takeda Pharma.

While CAR-T therapy has seen significant success in treating blood cancers, its effectiveness against solid tumors—such as those in the brain, liver, and lungs—has been limited due to a lack of clear targets. To address this, researchers at the USC Viterbi School of Engineering have developed a method called SHIFTERS.

This approach uses focused ultrasound to prompt tumor cells to temporarily display CD19, a marker that CAR-T cells can recognize. The system utilizes the low-oxygen environments characteristic of solid tumors as a trigger, requiring both the tumor's biological state and ultrasound guidance to activate the therapy, potentially expanding the application of immunotherapy to a wider range of cancers.
