Car thefts in Essen and Stein lead to arrests

In Essen, Germany, a 38‑year‑old Serbian stole a Kia Sportage on the morning of 26 July. After a resident heard the vehicle start, police pursued the car, stopped it at a red light on Friedrich‑Ebert‑Straße, and arrested the suspect at gunpoint. The stolen vehicle was returned to its owner.

In Stein, near the Swiss canton of Aargau, police detained a 24‑year‑old Algerian following a series of vehicle break‑ins reported early on 28 July. An alerted resident heard a car alarm, observed broken windows and cash being taken, and a patrol with a tracking dog located the suspect, who was taken into custody. Investigators are determining whether the three reported break‑ins are linked.
