Caraș-Severin reports rise in mental health cases and public complaints

In the Caraș-Severin county of Romania, recent health data indicates a rise in mental health diagnoses. During the first quarter of the year, 11,187 mental health cases were recorded, representing a 3.5% increase compared to the first quarter of 2025.

While many chronic conditions such as hypertension, ischemic heart disease, and diabetes showed a decrease in recorded cases, other ailments saw increases. Specifically, malignant tumors rose by 15.4%, epilepsy by 15.1%, and chronic pulmonary heart disease by 219.7%.

Additionally, the Caraș-Severin Public Health Directorate (DSP) reported a 70% increase in citizen complaints during the early months of 2026. As of August 13, the institution received 153 complaints compared to 90 during the same period last year. Spokesperson Daniel Botgros noted that this surge likely reflects heightened public concern regarding health and quality of life. Common complaints include sanitary conditions, beach and pool hygiene, agricultural waste, and food product quality.
