Carabao Cup: AFC Wimbledon and Cardiff City advance

In the first round of the Carabao Cup, AFC Wimbledon progressed to the second round after defeating Newport County 5-4 in a penalty shootout. The match ended 1-1 following normal time. Newport took the lead in the 71st minute through a strike by Yahaya Bamba, but AFC Wimbledon's Callum Maycock scored a stoppage-time equalizer to force the shootout.

Despite an early lead and a 2-2 draw from Swindon, Cardiff's new signing Jack Moylan scored the winning goal in the 77th minute on his debut. Moylan, a Republic of Ireland midfielder, curled the ball home from 20 yards shortly after entering the match as a substitute.
