Chile approves new 2027 High Command for Carabineros

Carabineros de Chile Alto Mando 2027 police leadership institutional restructuring security policy

President José Antonio Kast has approved the new 2027 High Command for Carabineros de Chile, a restructuring designed to coincide with the institution's centenary. The new leadership structure, proposed by General Director Marcelo Araya Zapata, includes the promotion of eight colonels to the rank of general and the retirement of several high-ranking officers.

Key regional leadership changes include the appointment of General Cristián Mansilla Varas as the new head of the Aysén Zone, replacing General Eduardo Palma Fuentes, who will transition to the role of sub-director of the Integrated Police Coordination Center. In the Magallanes Zone, Emilio Teixidor Araya will assume command following the retirement of Marco Alvarado Díaz. Additionally, General Adrián Andrades Miranda has been ratified to continue leading the Tarapacá Zone.

The restructuring aims to modernize and professionalize the police force, with a focus on responding to citizen security demands, respecting human rights, and strengthening institutional welfare.
