Carabineros de Chile begins replacing UZI weapons with CZ Scorpion submachine guns

Carabineros de Chile has begun a modernization process for its weaponry, starting with the delivery of approximately 300 CZ Scorpion EVO 3 A1 submachine guns. Public Security Minister Martín Arrau and General Director Marcelo Araya oversaw the initial distribution, which aims to progressively replace the UZI submachine guns that have been in service for nearly 30 years.

The new 9 mm caliber weapons, featuring 30-round magazines, are initially designated for the Special Police Operations Group (GOPE) and Radio Patrol officers in the Metropolitan Region and across the country. Officials described the new equipment as more modern, lightweight, and ergonomic, providing better firepower to combat increasing crime violence. Officers are required to complete shooting range certification to ensure proper handling.

In a separate community engagement event in Linares, the Carabineros held a ‘Day of the Applicant’ to showcase various institutional specialties. The event included demonstrations from units such as GOPE, the Drug Department (OS7), the Traffic Accident Investigation Section (SIAT), and the Criminalistics Laboratory (LABOCAR). The initiative aimed to connect with students and provide information regarding the application process for joining the police force.
