Carabineros officer dies in accidental shooting at La Serena police station

A Carabineros officer was killed after an accidental discharge of a firearm during a weapons handover at the Sexta Comisaría de Las Compañías in La Serena, Coquimbo Region. According to preliminary reports, a second‑class corporal handling a gun inadvertently triggered it, striking a first‑class corporal in the chest. The victim was rushed for emergency care and revived briefly, but died from the severity of his injuries. The Carabineros Prefecture of Coquimbo expressed condolences and announced that all evidence has been handed to the Military Prosecutor’s Office for investigation.
