Chilean authorities investigate officer killing and violent crimes

Authorities in Chile are investigating several violent incidents. In Renca, 32-year-old Carabineros officer Alejandro Ortiz Vásquez was fatally shot while working as an Uber Eats delivery driver. Reports indicate that after delivering a package to three individuals, a dispute arose involving a knife, leading to the officer being shot in the face. The Fiscalía ECOH is investigating the homicide, noting that the officer was off-duty and using a private vehicle at the time.

In a separate incident in Cerrillos, Carabineros intervened during an attempted vehicle theft at a Shell service station. During the confrontation, two suspects were killed by police officers. Investigations are ongoing to determine the full extent of the ballistic evidence and to locate a vehicle that was stolen during the encounter.

Additionally, four individuals were detained in connection with a threat against writer Fernando Villegas in Ñuñoa. The suspects allegedly placed a simulated bomb and a noise-making explosive device at his residence, accompanied by threatening pamphlets from a group calling itself “Frente Revolucionario”. Police seized subversive literature and manuals for manufacturing explosives during the raids.
