In Antofagasta, a 44-year-old Carabineros first sergeant was seriously wounded after being shot four times during a preventive inspection. The attack occurred at the intersection of Huachaca and Chiloé. Carabineros has identified two subjects of interest in the investigation: Mauricio Andrés Rojas Santander, a 40-year-old Chilean, and Ricardo José Rodríguez Sánchez, a 26-year-old Venezuelan national known by the aliases ‘Cantinflas’ and ‘El Menor’. Police are currently conducting a large-scale search for the suspects.

Simultaneously, the Chilean government executed ‘Operation Cancerbero,’ a massive security operation to transfer high-risk inmates to the new La Laguna prison in Talca. The operation involved moving hundreds of prisoners from various facilities, including Santiago, to the high-security complex. Among those transferred were 191 high-danger inmates, including 37 individuals linked to organized crime and nine gang leaders. President José Antonio Kast described the transfer as a historic step toward strengthening prison security and addressing overcrowding.
