Carabineros police dog Elda retires after years of service

Elda, a nine-year-old German Shepherd, has officially retired from the Carabineros de Chile following a formal ceremony. During her service, Elda specialized in defense and attack, performing duties such as maintaining public order, patrolling, and participating in community activities, primarily within the historic center of Concepción.

Elda was paired with Corporal Gisella Rosales four years ago. Despite the challenges of pairing an adult dog with a new handler, the two developed a strong professional and personal bond. General Renzo Miccono, head of the Eighth Zone of Carabineros, presented the dog with her retirement decoration.

While police dogs typically retire at ten and a half years of age, Elda’s retirement was moved forward due to medical recommendations regarding hip dysplasia and discopathy. She will now transition to domestic life with Corporal Rosales.
