Carabinieri arrest two suspects following series of scams in Italy
Italian Carabinieri have arrested two men, aged 37 and 21, following a series of fraudulent schemes targeting elderly citizens. The suspects were apprehended after a high-speed pursuit along State Road 158 after ignoring police signals.
In one incident in Ausonia, the duo used a deceptive phone call claiming a relative had debts to solicit cash and gold. During the arrest, officers recovered 800 euros and over 100 grams of gold jewelry, which have been returned to the victims. The suspects are currently held in Isernia prison on charges of aggravated fraud.
A separate incident in Fano involved a 72-year-old woman who was defrauded of 100,000 euros worth of gold and jewelry. In that case, scammers impersonated Carabinieri officers, claiming a robbery had occurred and instructing the victim to hand over her bank safe contents and household valuables to a fake expert.
