Carabinieri arrest two thieves in Catania’s Via Etnea
On 22 June 2026, a Carabinieri Radiomobile unit in Catania coordinated with the central operations centre after a shoe store on Via Etnea reported a theft. Using the suspects’ description and clothing, the police searched the area and received a second emergency call about two young men handling merchandise in a nearby sports‑goods shop.
The officers found a 24‑year‑old and a 25‑year‑old, both foreign nationals without a fixed residence, matching the earlier description. A search uncovered a pair of newly purchased shoes with a portion of an anti‑theft tag attached, and additional pieces of the tag hidden in their trousers. The stolen items were returned to the first shop. The two men were detained, placed in custody and referred to the judicial authority on charges of theft and aggravated attempted theft in concert.
The incident highlights the prompt response and cooperation between Carabinieri units and emergency services in preventing further loss.
