Italian coastal police crackdown results in arrests, seizures and fines

Intensive police checks along Italy’s beaches have led to a series of arrests and penalties. In the Rome coastal area from Ostia to Fiumicino, Carabinieri operations in the past 48 hours resulted in five arrests, ten denunciations and 19 administrative sanctions, with drug seizures that included 6 g of pink cocaine, ecstasy tablets and 87 g of hashish.

In Catania, police patrols on the 30‑km shoreline seized two unregistered quad bikes used by convicted offenders and imposed fines totaling almost €5,000 for dangerous beach driving.

At Mondello, two suspects were arrested for aggravated theft after they stole phones, documents and a life‑saving medication from beachgoers; most of the stolen items were recovered.

A coordinated summer‑season plan for the Vibo Valentia coast, involving police, the coast guard and the finance guard, will maintain heightened surveillance of beaches, tourist facilities and marine activities to safeguard safety, legality and the environment.

These operations illustrate a nationwide effort to reinforce public order, protect tourists and curb illicit activities on Italy’s littoral zones.
