Carabinieri Forestale seize illegal sawmill in Aversa

Carabinieri Forestale officers from Marcianise have seized a property in Aversa, Italy, following the discovery of an illegal sawmill operating in violation of environmental regulations. During the inspection of the site on Via Vecchia di Teverola, authorities found various piles of cut wood, dry branches, and several types of hazardous and non-hazardous waste abandoned on the ground.

Specific items seized include lead-acid batteries, broken wooden pallets, a rusted refrigerator (WEEE), metal waste, a disassembled boiler, and packaging contaminated with engine oil. Additionally, officers found eight bags filled with sawdust. The operator also admitted to disposing of large quantities of sawdust in an agricultural field in Teverola, where investigators found a thick layer of the material covering the ground.

The owner of the timber trading company and manager of the sawmill faces several criminal charges, including the unauthorized storage of hazardous and non-hazardous waste, the abandonment of non-hazardous waste (sawdust) on the ground, and the production of atmospheric emissions from wood cutting without authorization. The property has been seized, and the owner has been referred to the authorities.
