Carabinieri Forestali intensify environmental crime enforcement in Italy

The Carabinieri Forestali are conducting extensive operations across Italy to combat environmental crimes, focusing on illegal waste management, unauthorized construction, and forest protection.

In the Cuneo province, authorities conducted 13,600 inspections over the past year, resulting in 320 individuals being referred to the judiciary and over one million euros in fines. Key issues identified include illegal waste disposal, unauthorized logging, and theft from collection centers involving valuable materials like copper and iron. Lieutenant Colonel Luca Stella noted that waste-related offenses, ranging from abandonment to illegal combustion, represent the most significant area of engagement.

In the Fermo region, specialized units reported several recent enforcement actions. In Pedaso, legal representatives of a client company and a construction firm were reported for maintaining an unauthorized temporary deposit of approximately 3,800 cubic meters of demolition waste. Additionally, in Monteleone di Fermo, a 76-year-old man was reported for the illegal combustion of non-hazardous waste, including plastic, wood, and paper, in an agricultural area.
