Carabinieri hold ceremonies to honor fallen officers

Ceremonies were held in Italy to honor two Carabinieri officers awarded the Gold Medal for Civil Valor.

In Amatrice, officials and family members gathered to mark the 35th anniversary of the death of Vice Brigadier Gerardo Catena. Catena died in September 1991 at Lake Massaciuccoli while attempting to rescue an officer from drowning. The commemoration included the presence of the Prefect of Rieti, the Mayor of Amatrice, and various military representatives.

In Palermo, a solemn ceremony took place in Piazza Principe di Camporeale to remember Major Vito Ievolella, who was killed by Cosa Nostra 45 years ago on September 10, 1981. Ievolella was killed while traveling in a car with his wife. The event was attended by high-ranking military officials, including the Commander of the Carabinieri Legion of Sicily, and local civil authorities. Laurel wreaths were laid by the Carabinieri, the Sicilian Regional Assembly, and the Municipality of Palermo to honor his memory.
