Carabinieri officers injured during intervention in Polistena

The Unione Sindacale Italiana Carabinieri (USIC) has expressed solidarity with Carabinieri officers who were injured during an intervention in Polistena, Reggio Calabria. On September 5, 2026, personnel from the Taurianova Radiomobile Section and the Polistena Carabinieri Station intervened at a Lidl supermarket to apprehend a non-EU citizen in a state of severe psychophysical alteration. The attempt to secure public safety resulted in physical injuries to several officers.

USIC regional secretary Andrea Barreca praised the professionalism and sense of duty shown by the officers, who acted to mitigate risks to citizens despite the danger to their own safety.
