Carabinieri seize stolen copper in Belpasso

Carabinieri officers in the province of Catania have seized 7 kilograms of copper cables following a nighttime patrol in Belpasso. During a routine traffic stop around 2:00 AM, officers observed a 30-year-old driver from Misterbianco acting in an unusually nervous manner, prompting a vehicle search.

Investigators discovered the copper cables in the car's trunk. The driver was unable to provide a plausible explanation for the material. Authorities noted that the individual had just completed a shift as a security guard at a photovoltaic plant currently under construction, suggesting the metal may have been stolen from that site.

The man has been reported for receiving stolen goods. The Carabinieri are continuing investigations to confirm the exact origin of the copper and to determine if it is linked to recent thefts at local construction sites or industrial facilities.
