Ion Doldurea and Viorel Caragea resign from official roles

Two Romanian officials have resigned from their positions due to health concerns.

Ion Doldurea, the mayor of Caracal, announced his resignation following a serious road accident approximately six months ago. Doldurea, who was involved in a collision with a truck while traveling to Bucharest, underwent brain surgery to remove a blood clot. Despite medical advice to avoid stress and fatigue, he continued his duties until a recent medical evaluation determined he could no longer fulfill his responsibilities. Vice Mayor Laurențiu Pătran will assume his duties. Doldurea’s resignation comes amid ongoing legal proceedings regarding his alleged past collaboration with the Securitate.

Separately, Viorel Caragea has resigned from his role as special administrator of Uzina Mecanică Sadu (UM Sadu) after six months in the position. Caragea, a former police chief, cited health issues and medical recommendations for his departure. During his tenure, he worked on inventorying assets and addressing significant debts to ANAF and local authorities, noting that the factory has seen a massive reduction in staff since the 1990s.
