Caracas authorities arrest suspects in theft and homicide cases

Venezuelan authorities have made several arrests in connection with distinct criminal incidents in Caracas.

In Chacao, the Cuerpo de Investigaciones Científicas, Penales y Criminalísticas (Cicpc) detained 27-year-old César Junior Romero Valdez. He was identified as a suspect in multiple cell phone thefts, allegedly using crowds and distractions to steal devices for illicit use or sale. Romero Valdez was already wanted by justice for robbery and theft.

In a separate investigation, the Cicpc clarified the homicide and robbery of 62-year-old Johnny Alberto Matos Meléndez in the Libertador municipality. Authorities arrested Pedro Arturo Haro Méndez, 63, for his alleged involvement in the crime. Investigators determined the suspects lured the victim to a property under the guise of a housing rental. Following a struggle, the victim was restrained and beaten to death before the suspects fled with his belongings. A second individual, Jorge Cahuano, had been previously detained in connection with this case.
