Caracas Mayor deploys security to protect vandalized traffic lights

Mayor Carmen Meléndez has announced a specialized security plan to protect 20 locations within the Caracas traffic light network following repeated acts of vandalism. The initiative includes police patrols and the installation of video surveillance cameras to safeguard intersections after repairs are completed by the Autonomous Institute of Transport and Roadways of Caracas (Intravialca).

Local authorities reported that the theft of internal wiring has caused approximately 90% of the city's analog traffic lights to fail. Each affected point requires the replacement of at least 60 meters of composite material to restore functionality. Once repairs and the installation of new electrical conductors are finished, the Caracas Police will maintain a constant presence to prevent further theft. This security measure complements ongoing road rehabilitation and modernization efforts in several major avenues, including Teherán, Lecuna, and San Martín.
