Caracas protesters reject US-Venezuela oil deal

Protesters in Caracas, including Chavista supporters and public employees, demonstrated on Thursday to reject a recent oil agreement signed between the United States and Venezuela on August 28. Demonstrators gathered near the Central University of Venezuela and Plaza Venezuela, carrying signs that labeled the deal ‘the worst oil contract in the world’ and calling for the removal of Donald Trump.

In addition to opposing the energy deal, participants demanded dignified wages. Protesters highlighted the economic crisis, noting that the monthly base salary remains at approximately 130 bolívares, or roughly 0.15 USD.

Organized by groups such as the Communist Party of Venezuela (PCV), Patria Para Todos (PPT), and Partido Socialismo y Libertad (PSL), the movement argued that the agreement violates the Venezuelan Constitution by handing natural resources to foreign powers. Eduardo Sánchez, president of the Federation of University Workers, stated the group demands respect for national sovereignty and the living conditions of the Venezuelan people.
