Caracas public transport fares increase to 230 bolívares

Public transport operators in Greater Caracas have announced an increase in urban fares to 230 bolívares, effective November 1. The adjustment maintains the rate anchored to 0.25 US dollars, a scheme previously agreed upon with the national government in March.

Nelson Vivas, president of the Southwest Block and coordinator for all Caracas transport blocks, confirmed the change following an extraordinary assembly at the Unión de Conductores Antímano (UCA). The meeting included representatives from the West, North-South, East, South-West, and Baruta blocks.

Beyond the fare adjustment, transport leaders addressed several sector concerns. These include demands for the return of vehicles allegedly detained illegally since 2024 and requests for compensation for owners who lost income. Additionally, the group proposed a 40-dollar monthly subsidy for students, the elderly, and people with disabilities to assist with transportation costs.
