Caracas real estate chamber urges property law reforms after June 24 earthquakes
Fernando Di Geronimo, president of the Metropolitan Real Estate Chamber of Caracas, called for urgent negotiations with authorities to reform rental, mortgage and credit legislation following the June 24 earthquakes that devastated parts of Venezuela. He stressed that vacant buildings should be opened to shelter families under state guarantees while ensuring private‑property rights for owners, builders, engineers and architects. Di Geronimo urged the reduction of legal encumbrances on loans to improve financing access for affected families and proposed a review of the Rental Law, the Anti‑Real‑Estate‑Fraud Law and the Mortgage Debtor Protection Law. He emphasized the need for coordinated involvement of all associations, organizations and government representatives to prepare the sector for future emergencies.
