Caracas residents protest prolonged electricity outages

Residents in Caracas, specifically in the La Candelaria parish and surrounding areas of the Libertador municipality, have staged protests against severe and prolonged electricity outages. Protesters reported that some sectors, such as the Miguelacho and Tracabordo corner, endured up to eight consecutive days without power, while others in Las Delicias faced five-day outages.

Community leaders, including Carlos Julio Rojas of the Caracas Northern Front, highlighted the secondary consequences of the blackout, noting that the lack of electricity has caused food to spoil and prevented hydraulic pumps from functioning, leading to water shortages.

Critics of the state-run electricity company, Corpoelec, claim that official narratives regarding international investment agreements are not reflected in the service quality. Local representatives alleged that Corpoelec staff lack the necessary tools and spare parts to perform repairs, suggesting the institution is in a state of technical collapse due to mismanagement.
