Carajás Railroad blockade in Marabá halts ore and passenger trains
Protesters from two rural communities have blocked the Carajás Railroad (EFC) near kilometer 785 in Vila Itainópolis, Marabá. The blockade, which began on Tuesday morning, has halted the movement of both passenger and ore trains.
The mobilization involves residents of Vila Itainópolis and settlers from Vila Itacaiunas, who have different grievances. Residents of Itainópolis are demanding improvements to local access roads, citing unfulfilled promises from the Marabá City Hall and Vale, the company responsible for operating the railway.
Meanwhile, settlers from Vila Itacaiunas are protesting against the National Institute for Colonization and Agrarian Reform (Incra), demanding payments related to land expropriation processes. The protest has disrupted the weekly passenger service running from Parauapebas to São Luís.
