Carajás Region Hosts Major Mining Conference and Business Fair to Boost Local Economy

The V Congresso Técnico Simineral was held in Canaã dos Carajás, Pará, featuring a panel titled “Mining and Local Development: Transforming Mineral Wealth into Sustainable Economic and Social Legacy.” Municipal representative Josemira Gadelha shared the stage with Vale’s director Eloíso Araújo, Ministry of Justice prosecutor Nadilson Portilho, FIEPA president Alex Dias Carvalho and Treasury Secretary René Sousa Júnior. The discussion focused on leveraging the Compensation Financial for Mineral Exploration (CFEM) to diversify economies, professionalize workforces and ensure long‑term benefits for mining communities.

At the same time, Parauapebas launched the inaugural Carajás Negócios fair, promoted by the Federation of Commercial and Business Associations of Pará (Faciapa) and the local Commercial, Industrial and Services Association (Acip). The three‑day event, running from August 6‑8, expects to move more than R$100 million in business, attract around 35,000 visitors and host roughly 60 % local exhibitors. Organizers report the creation of over 2,000 direct jobs during set‑up, and speakers such as Acip president Iran de Moura and Faciapa president Leonardo Pinheiro highlighted the fair’s role in strengthening regional entrepreneurship and attracting national and international interest.
