Caravaggio masterpiece arrives in Berlin for rare exhibition

During Berlin Art Week, the Italian Embassy in Berlin is hosting a rare exhibition featuring Caravaggio’s 1606 masterpiece, ‘Maria Maddalena in Estasi’. This marks the first time the painting has been displayed in Germany.

The exhibition creates a dialogue between the Baroque master and contemporary sculptor Berlinde De Bruyckere. The works are presented together to explore the relationship between the physical body and the unseen, with the exhibition scheduled to remain open until September 25, 2026.
