Switzerland and Italy report livestock attacks and fatal rail accident
DNA analysis has identified the wolves responsible for several livestock attacks in the Pfäffikon and Einsiedeln regions of Switzerland. The attacks, which occurred on August 20, 22, and 30, involved the killing of twelve sheep and one goat. The identified individuals include M107, the alpha wolf of the Chöpfenberg pack, and M586, a wolf from the 2025 litter that has since left the pack.
In Italy, a fatal accident on the Turin–Genoa railway line near Rocchetta-Cerro Tanaro forced the emergency evacuation of 150 passengers. Following the incident, which occurred on October 6, travelers were required to walk along the track bed using ladders provided by emergency services before continuing their journey via replacement buses.
