Carbage Run rally stops in Bistrița

Over 400 vehicles participated in a stopover at the Bistrița airfield as part of the Carbage Run, Europe’s largest rally for old cars. The event is a road trip style competition where participants travel thousands of kilometers in vehicles often described as junk.

Launched in the Netherlands in 2009, the rally has become an international phenomenon. To qualify, vehicles must be at least 15 to 20 years old and have a market value between 500 and 1,000 euros. Rather than a race against time, the winner is determined by the team that accumulates the most points by completing various daily challenges and tasks along the route.

The rally focuses on adventure and discovery rather than speed, often taking participants through less touristy mountain regions and unconventional roads. Technical issues and breakdowns are considered part of the experience, as organizers do not provide towing or technical assistance. Participants are expected to rely on their own skills and mutual aid from other teams. Following the stop in Bistrița, the route continues toward the Republic of Moldova.
