Carbon4LIFE project launches to convert olive‑tree waste into renewable biogas in Spain

In June 2026, the Carbon4LIFE initiative was launched at the Magtelen Aerópolis facilities in Seville. The EU LIFE‑co‑funded programme gathers eleven organisations from Spain, France, Denmark and Greece to develop technologies that turn woody olive‑tree pruning residues into renewable biogas, bio‑char and sustainable substrates for agriculture and horticulture.

The project highlights the need for a complete circular bio‑economy chain that can scale to industrial levels. Parallel efforts include the CONTINUUM and PROTOBOAT projects, financed by Spain’s CDTI and CTA, which aim to create a cyber‑secure digital twin for critical infrastructure and an autonomous aquatic drone with edge‑fog‑cloud capabilities.

These initiatives reflect a broader push for industrial innovation that bridges research, industry and public administration to generate real‑world industrial capacity.
