Cardano blockchain registers 100,000 farmland parcels in India
An agricultural initiative backed by the Cardano Foundation has successfully registered 100,000 farmland parcels on the Cardano blockchain in India. This milestone, reached on October 21, 2026, aims to provide smallholder farmers with tamper-resistant digital identities to improve their access to formal financial services, insurance, and agricultural markets.
The project utilizes satellite-verified information, decentralized identifiers, and historical agricultural data—including crop history and biomass records spanning up to 12 years—to create a comprehensive digital profile for each farm. By anchoring this data on the blockchain, the initiative allows lenders, insurers, and traders to independently verify land boundaries and agricultural practices, reducing administrative burdens and verification costs.
The program is a collaborative effort involving the Syngenta Foundation India and the Agri-Entrepreneur Growth Foundation, with technical support from AIQUANT, Anastasia Labs, and Andamio. Field activities have specifically targeted districts in Maharashtra, such as Achalpur and Anjangaon Surji. The initiative seeks to address documentation gaps for the millions of small farmers in India who currently lack the verifiable data required to participate in formal economies.
