Cardano Foundation spins out digital identity firm Veridian
The Cardano Foundation has launched Veridian as an independent commercial entity specializing in digital identity solutions. Developed over three years, Veridian aims to provide tools for governments, enterprises, and individuals to verify identities and authority in digital interactions without relying on centralized databases.
Veridian’s shares have been issued as ledger-based securities under Switzerland’s DLT Act. This marks the first asset deployment on the Cardano blockchain using the new CIP-0113 programmable token standard, which allows for embedded controls such as identity checks and transfer restrictions.
Led by CEO Thomas A. Mayfield, the company plans to expand its services to include AI agent identity verification and government-level implementations, noting alignment with digital identity guidelines in Utah, USA. Veridian intends to seek strategic partners and investors in 2027.
