Cardi B discusses musical influences and Keyshia Cole
During a guest curation for The New York Times’ T Magazine, rapper Cardi B named Keyshia Cole’s 2005 debut album, ‘The Way It Is’, as the greatest album of all time. She noted that she has listened to the record since she was 13 years old.
Following the feature, Cardi B addressed fans on X Spaces regarding her list of musical influences, which included Madonna, Missy Elliott, Lil’ Kim, Foxy Brown, and Trina. She responded to criticism from Nicki Minaj fans after omitting Minaj from the list. Cardi B explained that she distinguishes between being a fan of an artist and being influenced by them, noting that she was already 17 years old when Minaj arrived on the scene. She added that the artists she named were the ones she grew up watching on television.
Regarding Foxy Brown, Cardi B stated that while she listened to her music growing up, she does not often mention her because she believes Brown does not like her.
