Cardiff City manager Brian Barry-Murphy signs contract through 2029 and targets coaching staff boost

Cardiff City head coach Brian Barry-Murphy has agreed a new contract that will keep him at the Championship club until the summer of 2029. Assistant head coach Lee Riley and head of performance Kevin Gibbins also signed three‑year deals as part of the renewal. Barry‑Murphy was rewarded after guiding the Bluebirds to an immediate return to the Championship, winning automatic promotion with a club‑record 91 points and reaching the Carabao Cup quarter‑finals.

The club is also looking to strengthen its backroom staff by appointing former Manchester City academy coach Imanol Etxeberria as the new first‑team goalkeeping coach. The move follows the departure of goalkeeping coach Gavin Ward after last season’s promotion and comes amid ongoing interest in other Manchester City academy staff such as Max Johnson.
